A roof rack gives you extra room for camping gear, recovery equipment, rooftop tents, and all the stuff you'd rather not cram inside your truck or SUV. But before you load up, you need to know how much weight your rack is designed to carry.
Here's where things get a little confusing. Most roof racks have two weight ratings: static and dynamic. One applies when you're parked, and the other applies when you're driving. Mixing them up could leave you carrying more weight than your setup is designed to handle.
The good news? Once you understand the difference, figuring out your roof rack's weight capacity is pretty simple.
