Rough Country Expands in Canada With New Warehouse

Cross-border shipping adds variables to an order.

Products leaving a U.S. warehouse need to travel to the border, go through customs, complete required paperwork, and then continue through Canada before reaching the dealer or customer.

Products already stocked in Milton avoid much of that process.

“For anything we already have in Milton, we're basically cutting out the international part of the shipment.”

Fewer steps also mean fewer opportunities for delays or extra handling.

The Canadian warehouse is expected to help reduce:

• Customs and border delays
• Border-related paperwork
• Additional handling between shipping networks
• Risk of damage during inspections or transfers
• Inconsistent delivery timing

Orders shipped directly from the Canadian warehouse will stay within the Canadian distribution network rather than moving through an international shipment first.

Speed is one of the biggest benefits Canadian dealers should notice.

When products are already stocked in Canada, orders have a shorter path from the warehouse to the customer.

Chase said consistency is equally important.

“If we already have the product in Canada, there are just fewer things that can slow the order down. You're taking out the border crossing, customs paperwork, extra handoffs, and some of the other variables that come with an international shipment.”

Removing those variables should make delivery times more predictable, which matters for dealers scheduling installations and customers waiting on parts for upcoming projects.

The Milton warehouse carries products across several major Rough Country categories, including:

• Suspension products
• Shocks and struts
• Steps and running boards
• Lighting
• Exterior accessories
• Truck accessories
• Jeep accessories
• SUV products

The long-term inventory strategy will focus on Canadian demand rather than trying to stock every Rough Country product in one location.

As the Canadian operation gathers more sales history, the warehouse team will have a clearer picture of which products customers purchase most often and how much inventory each category needs.

“I don't think the goal should be to put every Rough Country part we sell in this building. We need to learn what Canadian customers are actually buying and build the inventory around that.”

That approach will help Rough Country adjust stock levels based on real purchasing trends instead of relying only on early estimates.

Opening the Milton location required much more than adding racks and filling shelves.

The team-built warehouse operations from the ground up, including layout planning, racking, equipment, receiving, shipping procedures, inventory systems, staffing, training, and safety processes.

Behind the scenes, teams across Rough Country also worked on the systems needed to support the Canadian business.

Those efforts included:

• ERP and IT connections
• Accounting and banking processes
• Customs procedures
• Transportation
• Purchasing
• Supplier shipments into Canada
• Inventory transfers from U.S. facilities

The new warehouse is only the starting point.

As Rough Country builds more Canadian sales, receiving, shipping, and inventory history, the team will continue adjusting the operation.

Those numbers will help determine which products need deeper inventory, where shortages occur, and where shipping or warehouse processes need improvement.

Chase said he is looking forward to watching the operation develop as more data becomes available.

“Right now, a lot of what we're doing is building the foundation. As we get more sales history, receiving history, shipping history and inventory movement, we're going to get a much clearer picture of what we should stock, how much we should stock, where we're short, and where we're making things harder than they need to be.”

Canadian dealers have responded positively to the expansion so far, especially around shipping speed and reduced border issues.

Questions about inventory are expected as the operation grows. The Milton warehouse will not hold every Rough Country product immediately, but having a permanent Canadian operation gives the company room to expand inventory based on demand.

For Canadian customers, one-point matters most: Rough Country now has a physical operation inside Canada.

“We have a warehouse here, inventory here, and a team here supporting it. It isn't just a Canadian website with everything still being shipped out of the U.S.”

As the warehouse grows, Rough Country will continue refining inventory and distribution around the needs of Canadian dealers and customers.

The goal is straightforward: make ordering Rough Country products in Canada faster, easier, and more reliable.
